Teaching Experience

This gallery highlights student products from some select courses that I have instructed. teaching experience in course topics including apparel construction, fundamentals of the fashion industry, apparel analysis and technical design, textile testing and evaluation, professional development, technologies for apparel (Adobe Creative Suite and Lectra Kaledo), senior capstone Apparel Product Development, to name a few. Apparel Construction

Apparel I: Foundation Construction is a study of the construction, fit, and care of wearable apparel, primarily focusing on custom garments. This course is an introduction to traditional and contemporary methods of apparel construction, basic sewing techniques, and industry standard terminology.

 

Apparel II: Advanced Construction, investigates the art principles as they relate to apparel selection and the importance of quality and price in wardrobe selection. The student gains experience in advanced construction skills necessary to manipulate current fashion fabrics into a garment. Apparel II also included  a university client-based garment mendion and alteration Service Learning component.

Fashion Fundamentals

A survey course of the fashion industry. Fashion terminology, influential designers of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, influences on fashion, leading fashion centers, auxiliary fashion enterprises, career opportunities and current trends in merchandising are discussed.

 

Course Objectives

  • Classify fashion industry careers based on the range of position descriptions and responsibilities.

  • Analyze the economic, sociological, and psychological factors impacted by and affecting fashion.

  • Ceate an apparel assortment for an international clothing brand.

  • Critically evaluate current fashion trends as a process for trend forecasting.

  • Compose career goals based upon the structure and future direction of the fashion industry

  • Develop communication skills through written/visual and oral presentations

  • Demonstrate effective teamwork through communication and management of team responsibilities

Technologies for Apparel & Textiles

 

The development of skills related to visual communication with industry-relevant technology for marketing, promotional, and merchandising applications as well as personal branding.

 

Course objectives:

  • Utilize technological communication tools to create visually compelling marketing and promotional materials

  • Utilize technological practice to develop merchandising applications

  • Develop personal branding materials and a digital merchandising portfolio

Computer Integrated Textile & Fashion Design

This class involves the analysis and advanced use of computer-aided design software for textile and fashion design for various markets with a focus on the Lectra Kaledo suite. The course involves digital presentation and portfolio development.

 

Course Objectives

  • Develop knowledge of the various processes for creating textiles including prints, weaves, and knits. 

  • Increase skills in textile and apparel line development through investigation of a variety of inspirational sources for creative and distinctive designs. 

  • Investigate and analyze current textile and apparel trends using proper industry terminology.

  • Develop familiarity with textile development skills using Lectra Kaledo software, utilizing Kaledo Print, Weave, Knit, and Style.

  • Exhibit an understanding of the elements and principles of design and color theory for digital portfolio/presentation development.

  • Communicate effectively with others in one-on-one, small group, and large group situations. 

  • Demonstrate professional oral and written communication and use of current information and design technologies when communicating with individuals, groups, and the public.

Fashion Product Development & Prototyping​​

The course involves applying consumer, aesthetic, and quantitative trend information to develop value-added fashion products and product lines with merchandising/promotion campaigns for diverse target markets. This course involves multi-functional team projects and the development of a prototype and presentation to industry representatives.

 

Course Objectives

  • Develop knowledge and skills regarding project management - sample management platform for communicating with world mills and manufacturers.

  • Increase skills in product development through research, data collection, analysis, sourcing, prototyping, and evaluation to recommend product design changes to meet market demands. 

  • Practice conflict resolution techniques to meet merchandise goals within deadline by serving as a liaison between merchandisers and designers. 

  • Exhibit an understanding of product development for digital portfolio development. 

  • Communicate effectively with others in one-on-one, small group, and large group situations. 

  • Demonstrate professional oral and written communication and use of current information and technolgies when communicating with individuals, groups, and the public.
