Cotton Candy Carnival

The Cotton Candy Carnival collection was designed and developed for the young (teen) female consumer. Shibori dyeing techniques were used to create unique designs/patterns on the textile fabrics. The interesting "cut out" circulr shaping was inspired by the master japanese patternmaker, Tomoko Nakamichi.

The colors for dyeing, as well as the silhouette shapes, were selected from survey responses from local (Guthrie, OK) female teens. Click on the link to view the presentation that supports this collection development. CCC Presentation. LINK

"Cotton Candy Summer" was selected for design exhibtiion in the American Association of Family & Consumer Sciences 2015 Annual Conference.

Cotton Candy Summer was inspired by the “dress with gathered hole” design by Tomoko Nakamichi (2010, p.30), and monokini swimwear shapes that have been in fashion for teen consumers in the past few years. Unique pattern-making approaches were used to create a fitted dress without traditional construction methods to accomodate fit (e.g. darts for fit). The under-layer is a basic sheath fitted dress, while the top-layer was patterned to incorporate adjustable double gathered-hole, forming the side exposing monokini design. Lightweight cotton fabric was used to perform the kanoko shibori dyeing techniques. Procion dyes were used to submerge the shibori-prepped fabric for overall coloration, as well as to strategically drop bold hues of selected colors to create unique color effects.

Desert Rose in Tokyo

Desert Rose in Tokyo was designed and created for the Queen Sirikit Institute of Sericulture Peacock Standard of Thai Silk Competition.

The competition was co-sponsored by the International Textile and Apparel Association. The purpose of the competition was to showcase the Thai government's new "Peacock Standard" for Thai silk. The new standard was established by the Queen Sirikit and bears the Royal Peacock logo. The standard is four quality levels of which the highest is labeled as gold.

The first round of judging was from digital images and a written abstract describing the design process and techniques. During the second round, the top ten designs were judged in Bangkok. Desert Rose in Tokyo was selected as one of these top 10 finalist designs.

All ten of the finalists' designs were presented in a runway fashion show during the Association of Southeast Asian Nations Collaboration on Sericulture Research and Development Conference in which Her Royal Highness, the Princess of Thailand and Dr. Pimpen Vejjajiva, the wife of Thailand’s Prime Minister, were in attendance.

Come Away with Me

Intimate Loungewear

The Come Away with Me intimate loungewear collection was designed as a modest (conservative) lingerie collection. The collection is made from 100% silk which gives an alluring look to the comfortable garments.

A unique detail of these garments is the entry/closure technique - covered buttons. Covered buttons add to the elegance of the garment and attraction to the wearer.
